CARICOM is the short name for the Caribbean Community and the Common Market. This organization came into being in 1973, but actually the idea started long ago in colonial times. Around that time this region was called The West Indies.

If we mention CARICOM we talk about regional integration. This happens when states in a region form an organisation to work together on various matters. This working together is referred to as regional cooperation.
